MISSION STATEMENT HOME
Our purpose is simple. We see our Black American Tribe getting disrespected and destroyed; in media, passing conversation, all over the internet, casual interactions. Most others who inhabit our land, even new arrivals, express their negative assessment of our Native Black American Tribe at the slightest opportunity. The worst of it is that we see us disrespecting and destroying ourselves. In our humble opinion it is happening, in part, because we do not recognize, acknowledge, or honor our unique history/bond/kinship--near enough--"personally". We do not do enough to respect our Tribal Ancestors. We do not do enough to respect each other. We do not teach our children well enough to value and respect "us". If there ever was a "lost tribe", we have become it. This anonymous "tribal call" is just one more way to help us find, support and appreciate "us". We are not trying to lead anyone. We have enough self-appointed, self-promoting, ill-suited "leaders". The best cure for uneven leadership is a common thread of mutual respect and appreciation; a bond rooted in recognition and acknowledgement for which each and every member of the tribe is responsible. That is what we hope to help foster.
Others on this planet know the value of recognizing, honoring and valuing their tribe. It works. Example: When was the last time you heard of a Jew killing a Jew? Even if one Jew dislikes another, the value of their distinct "tribe" limits their conflict. While our histories are uniquely different, we have enough similarities with the Jews that we can learn from the Jewish "value of tribe". Some of us already do it to a greater or lesser degree. Our viability, our very survival may well hinge on more of us recognizing, respecting and appreciating more of us, more. Simply, Native Black Americans...be cool to one another. And if you see some of us acting a fool? Help us. Look for a method, word, gesture, reminder to help us past our "fool moment"--without becoming part of our media-nourished "black people actin' a fool" profile.
In the end, what's so amazing in all of this is that in spite of being so scattered of late, with so many others ripping us down (and some of us falling down and ripping each other down, hard)--we are still one of the most impressive tribes on the planet.
Like it or not, what one of us does (particularly negatively) is attributed to all of us. For that reason, we need to help each other--much like the Jews--be the best that we can be. It all starts with recognition. Send a picture...or a word. Finally, make a little extra effort to seek out and support Black American Tribe kids, businesses, efforts, movements (if halfway solid) when and where you can.
